Album Release: You Gotta Get Up and Riot! by Rick McCargar

Many of you know that I’ve been playing guitar and singing since I built my first guitar out of a peach-crate and rubber bands when I was ten.

This album, “You Gotta Get Up and Riot!” has everything from protest songs about the NSA and the recording industry, to country and rap parodies and a love song.

The album is only $4 U.S., or each song can be purchased individually on bandcamp for a single U.S. buck! Thanks for your support!

Streaming Sweatshops is a folk song in the tradition of those who came before us to fight for the rights of the average person. In this case, it is the average musician.

Pandora, Spotify and the rest, tell us that they are providing exposure, what they are really doing, is paying less than a penny per stream, while they make a very nice living off of our art.

The “new” music biz boss, same as the old boss.

You Gotta Get Up and Riot! is a song protesting the current state of affairs in which the wealthy pay for breaks from governments that have grown so large they no longer serve the people, but the bureaucrats and the powerful.

The politicians on both sides work to divide us so they can maintain their power.

It’s a song meant to implore everyone to become active…, slacktivism won’t cut it.

note: riot is a metaphor for action….take it.

Back With the Jack (70′s style flanger version) blues-rock/rap parody is a parody of the videos of parties at the mansion of wealthy rappers…they wander through the place rapping while surrounded by beautiful people covered in bling.

“Back With The Jack” is a funk-rock/rap song about a party in a trailer park that ran out of Jack Daniel’s

The rapper isn’t cool, the people aren’t beautiful, they aren’t rich, and they just ran out of Jack D…but all’s well that ends well…right!?!

They Say (Remastered) Newly remastered version of my original song is about the way people affect our relationships with the things “They Say”.

She’s A Sorry Excuse For A Woman (Hooker-Lite) country parody ust a regular country song (parody) about a man and his “Sorry Excuse For A Woman”. You know the type…guy finds girl, girl turns out to be a gold-digger…common story. RIP Tim Wilson!

Back With the Jack (megaphone version) This is a parody of the videos of parties at the mansion of wealthy rappers…they wander through the place rapping while surrounded by beautiful people covered in bling.

“Back With The Jack” is a funk-rock/rap song about a party in a trailer park that ran out of Jack Daniel’s

The rapper isn’t cool, the people aren’t beautiful, they aren’t rich, and they just ran out of Jack D…but all’s well that ends well…right!?!

note: this version has no 70′s style flanger, so the guitar more in your face punchy, and I used “megaphone” vocals.

Over the course of our lives, many people have opinions about the people we choose to love, and it isn’t rare that the relationships are affected by the things “They Say” (Remastered).

This is the remastered version of my first single, a simple acoustic singer-songwriter style original song.
