If I can play these licks/solos and songs, you can learn them too. I show you how, make the tab available, all you do is practice.
You may notice several things; I am not a pro, but love guitar; and I don’t add lectures to the videos.
The format is intended to provide a few licks and solos to play around with, along with the tablature, in a format similar to if you asked a friend how they played a certain lick, solo or song. What fingering or chords were used, etc.
They wouldn’t likely take twenty-minutes to explain a ten-second lick.
I love guitars, and as possible, given the limitations experienced following a couple of strokes, post favorite guitar licks/solos and songs, as well as guitar tablature that will help those who wish to learn them.

Over the past few years I’ve experienced some additional problems that have cost me the remainder of my gear. As I can borrow gear I will make new videos. If you subscribe, you’ve noticed a drop-off in posts over that time. I hope to resume posting as this is a great hobby…once I solve some of these problems related to health and finances. Hi Just think you’re a really awesome guy and thanks for sharing your talent – have had great fun messing around with your steely dan reeling in the years and there’s loads of interesting stuff here – miles better than the tutorial style of guitar video where they proscribe every nuance – hey – where’s the freedom of expression in that.
Don’t expect you to know this tune but favourite guitar solo in the world is by a band from Holland – golden earring – who had a huge hitin the early 70’s with radar love – well in Europe at least – and then disappeared – well they’re still going and still gigging and think their song vanilla queen from the album moontan is a thing of real beauty – tune is available of youtube everywhere but been trying to figure out the ‘slow’ guitar solo for years and if you fancy doing a euro rock style thing – be much appreciated – rhythm guitar part is Dm – then A/G played with the D shape on the 7th to 9th frets – followed by an open string sweep descent on C, B and then G to end up with the open D string sounding. Solo over that is simply heaven – and if you fancy having a go and posting will be even more of a fan than I am now – if you don’t fancy it, don’t worry – still think you are one hell of a great guy!!

Twilight Zone is my favorite of Golden Earring…. brought this group to my attention. But then… I’m was Goth before Goth was ‘cool’.
The Radio isn’t playing some forgotten song, I grew up during that period and love it. I don’t recall if I knew how to play the song before my strokes, but I’ll figure it out and post it as soon as I can.

edit: Just realize that I’m being trolled. I’m slow that way, thinking the best of people. Anonymous user who is following me without subscribing(?) makes request for simple solo and writes: “rhythm guitar part is Dm – then A/G played with the D shape on the 7th to 9th frets – followed by an open string sweep descent on C, B and then G to end up with the open D string sounding.” Sounds as though this person would be able to figure out that solo, and is asking me to do work for which there is no audience, including my new non-subscribing follower. Sad world.
Thanks so much for replying and glad radar love at least made it stateside – Hope radar love never reaches forgotten song status – but hey. I’m 51 so that song is part of my youth and moontan is probably still one of my top 10 albums. Radar love is actually the first song I learnt to play properly on guitar and still love messing round with it but Vanilla Queen is so much the stand out song on the album in terms of goosebumps!! Never really nailed that solo tho – hence my first message. Was lucky enough to see earring in their heyday at the gigs that became the Live album – they also toured UK last year and it was great in nostalgia but they haven’t aged well!! Don’t really do twitter but will certainly give you a like on facebook – thing you’re doing a great thing and love your choice of songs – keep on rockin!

I took up the six-and 12-string in college. Was a big Leo Kottke fan. In my 20’s I had to sell my guitars to pay rent. I remember talking to my dad on the phone and telling him my dilemma. “Get a good price,” he told me. Thanks, dad, for your support.
I live in Montague, Michigan, and on Wednesday night, fingerpicking virtuoso Chris Proctor is coming to the Howmet Theater in Whitehall, which is just across the causeway. Don’t know if you know of him, but I watched some of his work on youtube, and he’s incredible. I’m guessing that you are a little more wired into music than I am, these days, so you know who I’m talking about. Wish I could go, but I have a previous commitment.
I hope you will continue to share your passion for the guitar with your readers.

Thank you for the visit! I play a bit of guitar but unlike this, I learned when I was 23 so I’m not that good. 🙂 I learned to see if I can make songs in the future- well, I may not push through. 😀
But I mostly play music that are in C-G-A-D-E-F scale but I would like to learn more when I have proper time in the near future.:) This blog has just inspired me.

My two older kids have awesome guitars and really need lessons… I can’t afford them so there they sit… I want to teach them but I really don’t have time as a single mom now I have to provide for us… And their little brother is DeafBlind. Well they have awesome guitars.. Bit they can’t seem to just spend the time… They want to be the best right now so discouragement is the first problem!!! 🙂
A number of teachers are taking a new approach to teaching guitar. Rather than force beginners to suffer through single-string exercises to learn the notes and very simple melodies; they teach simple guitar chords, and simple progressions using those chords, so the new student quickly learns to play a song, rather than just a melody.

Tablature for stringed instruments was developed in the 15th century. It has a very long history.
