So I’m preparing to do a full lesson on how to play the Duane Allman slide guitar parts from the Allman Brothers Band “Fillmore Live” version of “Statesboro Blues”, and this is where I’m at as of February 25th, 2016.
Today I’m practicing doing loops of the first minute or so. Let me know what you think of the progress I’ve made working on this over the past three days. Thanks!
This guitar lesson is how to play the first section of the Allman Brothers Band’s Dickey Betts guitar solo from “One Way Out” off the Macon City Auditorium Concert of 2/11/1972 CD. This is the first concert they played following the death of founding member Duane Allman.
From HittintheNote.com:
“The third Allman Brothers archival release, and perhaps the most poignant one. Recorded in Macon, GA in February 1972, these 2 CDs present the unified front that was the five-man version of the band as it gamely carried on following the loss of Duane Allman. Powerful music, played with lots of soul and heart and passion – music like you never heard before.”

Dickey Betts Hotel Jam Guitar Solo – The Preacher (Horace Silver) – with tablature. Dickey and Dan Toler are shown in an after-concert hotel jam playing a bebop song written by Horace Silver called “The Preacher”. They play it in a western swing style that really captures the essence of the original song while including Dickey’s trademark style.
